Well done to Down Developments and our team for handing over the Discharge Lounge at the refurbished Direct Assessment Unit at Antrim Area Hospital today in what was a challenging project in a live environment to a very tight programme. The contractor and our team were working right up to the last minute! By the end of this week 12 beds and 5 recliners will be available to meet Winter Pressures. Phase two will commence at Easter.
The office decamped to the North West on Monday as we visited our recent extension to the Ulster University Library on the Magee Campus followed by a visit to the Foyle Arena
Thanks to GLL for inviting us to the opening of their new gymnasium in Church Lane by Councillor Sonia Copeland, the Deputy Lord Mayor of Belfast. Our design has transformed a vacant retail unit into a state of the art facility with 110 work out stations, indoor cycle studio, PRAMA, fuctional area, free weights zone and cycle store. They play very good music from the DJ booth also!
Practical completion achieved yesterday of this new teaching block which will provide the majority of teaching space for the University on the Magee Campus.
The new teaching block extension to the library on the Magee Campus for Ulster University is nearing completion. Handover is scheduled for end of November.
We are pleased to be working with Woodvale Construction on the new £20m Strabane Academy with a planned start on site date early in the new year.

Samuel Stevenson & Sons would like to appoint an experienced Architect to join their team. Applicants should be self motivated and willing to work as part of the Samuel Stevenson team on a range of projects in the healthcare, education and commercial sectors, at varying stages of development.
You will be responsible for coordinating design teams and delivering exciting and technically challenging projects. As a lead individual you will attend and host client meetings, design team meetings and regularly visit sites to review progress and coordinate information with your team.
To be considered for this position you must be able to satisfy the following criteria:
- Be a registered Architect and have the ability to carry out the full range of professional services of a qualified Architect
- Possess excellent communication skills
- Experience delivering major capital projects (£10m plus) as Design Team Leader
- A working knowledge of building contracts including NEC3
- A working knowledge of Building Regulations and CDM Regulations
- Ability to mentor architectural staff and delegate tasks to junior staff
- Have a strong technical ability and experience with AutoCAD and Revit and an understanding of Building Information Modelling (BIM)
- Access to a vehicle and a full UK driving licence
- Ambition to progress within the Practice

We are delighted to be working with GLL on the interior design of their new state of the art Better Gymnasium opening shortly in Church lane Belfast. This is an image from the BIM REVIT Model we built of the interior to help create the best possible layout. We also created a virtual reality walk through video. Opening this December, just in time for those New Year resolutions.
Work has started on our new £4m Student Services Building for the Institute of Technology Blanchardstown. This office building has been designed to accommodate student reception to ITB and centralise administration facilities over a 3 storey Atrium design. The building has been designed to meet EXEED certification to deliver best practice in energy efficient design management.
Congratulations to Nicholas who received a Highly Commended Award for Technical Excellence achieved on his BSc(Hons) Architectural Technology and Management Degree. We know who to give all our tricky details to now!
Samuel Stevenson & Sons are delighted to have been Architects on this £1.5m refurbishment project for Mid and East Antrim Borough Council and NI Science Park.
Originally designed as a millennium project ECOS focused on sustainability. We created a rooflight within the central atrium to bring natural daylight into the heart of the building and reconfigured 1850sq.m over four floors to provide Science Park–style shared and private workspaces, formal and informal meeting spaces and conference facilities alongside quality catering and business support
It was great to attend the official opening of the refurbishment of the Willowfield Parish Church Halls and see this project draw to a conclusion. The refurbished and extended buildings provide the church community with modern facilities to provide the numerous programs delivered.
We have a vacancy and wish to recruit a Part 2 Architect student or Architectural Technologist to join our Practice. We are looking for a student with good design and competent Revit skills to work on our projects that are being developed in BIM. The student should be motivated and willing to work as part of a team in a medium sized office where you will be able to learn and develop your skills. We currently have Sport, Education and Health projects in the office.
